Freyberg Wins Annual Sports Exchange
Students
from Freyberg High School and Kapiti College came together this week for
their annual sports exchange, competing across a range of sporting
disciplines to find the ultimate winner. Freyberg triumphed on the day,
retaining the 'Sport Challenge Cup' for the third year in a row, winning 6 -
5 overall with a draw in Badminton.
Kapiti College students travelled from the Kapiti Coast to Palmerston North, arriving mid-morning with a slight chill still lingering in the air. A welcoming powhiri was held and then the competition quickly got underway, with the weather remaining cloudy yet fine all day.
The winning Freyberg teams on the day were the Senior A1 Netball, Girls Football, Boys Hockey, Girls Hockey, Table Tennis and Girls Rugby. The Girls Football team, who are regional champions, had a particularly convincing win over Kapiti College of 9-0. Freyberg's Boys Hockey team had a busy day, beating Kapiti in a close game, then having to play their regular season game a half hour later.
Principal Peter Brooks thanked Sports Coordinator Rosemary Barsanti for her hard work in organising this successful exchange. Rosmary acknowledged the effort of all Freyberg students involved, including Freyberg alumni Matt McEwen, who spent the afternoon refereeing both rugby games. Freyberg is very proud to retain the trophy for three years running, and hopes to continue this winning tradition in years to come.
