Near perfect tournament for girls hockey

Girls HockeyWith nationals just around the corner, Freyberg's First X1 Girls Hockey team travelled to the Western Heights Invitational Tournament in Rotorua with a focus on combinations -  and almost came away with a trophy.

The competition consisted of five teams from around the North Island and a tiring two games a day. The team played well against St Matthews Collegiate, Reporoa College, MacLeans College and host school Western Heights. The team was guided by the leadership of the captains Pareanna Tanoa, Michaela Greenwood and Kea Keedle, who all stepped up when needed.

The girls went through the tournament unbeaten till the final, losing to St Matthews 2-0. It was a worthwhile tournament and the girls improved, learnt alot and enjoyed the tourist activities that Rotorua had to offer.

Coach Sam Lowe simply wanted the girls to "keep up the hard work" in preparing for their national tournament in Wanganui this year.
