Cheerleaders Are Champions Once Again
Freyberg High School's Cheerleading Squad showcased their winning talent at the National Cheerleading Competition in Auckland this past weekend.
The 17-strong squad cheered their way to the national title for the second year running, triumphing over squads from all around the country and showing off their superior skills in dance and gymnastics. The squad's joint captain, Nathan Stewart (pictured back-middle), was stoked with the win, gushing, “It was amazing. We kept mucking up in the practices but we had a perfect routine on the day. We didn't make any mistakes at all.” Stewart says the team practised 3 times a week in the lead up to the competition, perfecting their tosses, jumps, flips and cheers.
The gruelling training has certainly paid off, with the team victoriously retaining the coveted title. Back in Palmerston North, the squad can finally relax and take a well deserved holiday, giving their bodies a rest from the cheerleading world for a few weeks. Well done team for making Freyberg proud!
