A Term of Cultural and Academic Success

This term saw Freyberg crowned as having the best Kapahaka group, Concert Band, Business Entrepreneurs and even the best Brain Scientists in regional competitions. Not to mention the best national Cheerleading squad, and a second place at Rockquest Regionals.

Cultural Success

Kapahaka - Regional Champions
Freyberg students again made up the clear majority of national Kapahaka champions Te Piringa. At the regional competition late this term, Te Piringa lead by two Freyberg students, won the Manawatu competition held at the Regent theatre, qualifying for nationals next year.

Concert Band Festival - Gold Award
Freyberg sent their senior and intermediate concert bands to the concert band festival in Feilding. With other schools and community groups from around the lower North Island, Freyberg won a rare Gold award from the national adjudicators.

Rockquest - Second in Region
Freyberg band "The Excludents" managed overall second place at the Regional Rockquest competition qualifying for nationals in October. The three piece Electronica band were excited about the placing, in their first (and certainly not their last) entry into Rockquest.

Cheerleading - National Champions
Entered in the Schools division, Freyberg won both overall best team as well as a a couple of placings in Jumping and Tumbling at their national competition in Auckland. Read the full news article here.

Academic Success

Young Enterprise Scheme - Regional Winners
One of Freyberg's two teams competing against over a dozen other teams from Manawatu Schools won the regional Young Enterprise Scheme competition and head off to nationals in Wellington later in the year. By that stage, they should be around $12,000 in Profit, with their 'Lavish' Bobby-Pin product already selling well.

Brain Bee Science Competition - Best in Manawatu
Four Freyberg students went through an arduous and competitive online phase of the National Brain Bee to qualify for the North Island finals in Auckland. Freyberg's team of four Year 11 students, (the only Manawatu team to qualify) just missed out on the final four schools in the neuroscience (study of the brain) competition.
