Stage Challenge 2009 - Alice's Wonderland

Over 1000 students from 9 different Schools competed in the Palmerston North Stage Challenge event this week, in a festival of costume, dance, and story telling.

An Alice in Wonderland Theme was parodied around the idea of losing creativity in an increasingly technological world. The performance featured Alice meeting well known wonderland creatures like an army of evil playing cards.

Directed by year 13 students, Bethany Mudd, and Head-Girl Sofia Harley, everything about the performance was student run. The student leadership group started planning and preparing the show in November. There was student run fundraising, student choreography, student-made set, costumes and props.

On The Night over 1500 friends and family gathered at The Regent to watch Freyberg win seven “Excellence Awards” – including, Performance Skill, Choreography, and Sound Track.

At 11pm, after the final awards were announced by Mayor Jono Naylor, it was time to depart. Having been based at The Regent for around 15 hours, Freyberg’s students departed with pride and dignity, knowing they had represented their school with excellence.
