Taradale Sports Exchange

Taradale High School bussed down 180 students for the inaugural Freyberg-Taradale Sports Exchange. The schools competed in 14 sporting codes, with Freyberg winning three of the games compared to Taradale's eight.

Freyberg Boys and Girls Basketball were dominant and had big victories in the afternoon, however many of the same girls weren't as successful in Netball. The schools also competed in Hockey, Squash and Golf but the highlight of the day for many would be the premier Boys Rugby.

The huge crowd of students and staff watching the lunchtime rugby game were in for a thriller as the lead changed several times. With ten minutes to go, there was only two points separating the teams, when Freyberg threw the ball wide and crossed for an important try. The missed conversion meant that Freyberg had a slender 18-15 lead. Strong Freyberg defence meant Taradale were forced into trying long range drop-goal attempts, but to no avail. The game was won by Freyberg, restoring some Freyberg Pride.
